Two influential American figures. Here lies George Washington on the left and the Statue of Liberty on the right.
Washington was the first founding father of America who led the Continental Army during the American Revolution. On June 14, 1775, he was appointed by the second Continental Congress as the first Commander in Chief. Washington read the Declaration of Independence to his soldiers after the document was passed on July 4th, 1776. Washington prayed at Valley Forge when the Continental Army was losing strength in the winter of 1777-78. Washington became the first president of the United States. When he retired at Mount Vernon, Washington became the first figure to free all the enslaved people he had purchased.
The Statue of Liberty represents immigrants coming to America for a better life. Edouard Da Laboulaye Laboulaye invented the Statue of Liberty to honor the Declaration of Independence and give friendship between France and America.
