A portrait of President Ronald Reagan. During his early life, Reagan was a Hollywood actor at Warner Bros studios. He became a leader of the Screen Actors Guild from 1947 to 1952. Ten years later, Reagan stepped into politics. He served as the governor of California for two terms. Later on in 1980, Reagan won the presidential nomination by a landslide against President Jimmy Carter. During his presidency, Reagan implemented “Reaganomics” to cut taxes, lower government spending, and promote free market capitalism. Reagan signed the Economic Recovery Tax Act in 1981 and Tax Reform Act of 1986. In 1987, Reagan gave his powerful speech to the people of west Berlin at the Brandenburg Gate in Germany. His infamous words “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!”, dismantled the Communist regime of East Germany. At the end of his term, Reagan gave out his farewell address about We the people vs the government. He explained why the government should be working for the people.
